SENDT wasn't built by a tech company. It was built by a SENCO who lived the problem every day — watching brilliant teachers struggle to write IEP targets they'd never been taught to write, and dedicated TAs trying to support pupils without the right tools to help them.
Most teachers working with pupils with SEND are not SEND specialists. They're class teachers doing their best for children who need something extra — and TAs supporting those children every day — but without the training, the time, or the tools to write or use truly effective targets.
The result is support plans full of vague, unmeasurable targets. Not because the adults don't care — they do, deeply — but because nobody ever showed them how to write a good one.
"Improve behaviour." "Work on reading." "Develop social skills." These targets exist in thousands of support plans within schools. They're almost impossible to teach to, measure, or explain to a parent.
Why SENDT was built.
SENDT was created by a practising Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) with years of experience supporting teachers, writing support plans, and working alongside educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, behaviour leads, mental health professionals, dyslexia specialists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and other specialists involved in supporting children with SEND.
After spending years answering the same questions — "how do I write this target?", "what should I focus on for this pupil?" — it became clear that what was needed wasn't another training course. It was a simple, searchable tool with ready-made targets that could be used immediately or adapted to fit the individual pupil — and that actually worked in the classroom.
The target bank has been reviewed by a range of specialists — including an educational psychologist, a dyslexia specialist, and experienced classroom practitioners — and shaped by one guiding question: could a TA who has never attended a SEND training day pick this up and use it confidently? Every target is also fully editable — so if a target, success criteria or suggested provision is close but not quite right, it can be adapted to fit the individual pupil.

Using SENDT alongside professional
advice
SENDT's targets are designed as starting points for when professional support is not yet in place. Where a pupil is already working with an outside professional, their recommendations and targets should always take precedence over SENDT targets in that area. SENDT is a tool to support non-specialists, not to replace professional advice.
